NewVIc launches an innovative research project with Oxford University, Wadham College and the Marx Memorial Library

Newham Sixth Form is embarking on an innovative research project with Wadham College, Oxford University and the Marx Memorial Library. Commencing in January 2022 with the launch event in December 2021, the project will explore the contribution of Charlie Hutchison, the first black British volunteer in the Spanish Civil War, re-evaluating black history and its wider significance for modern Britain.

Historical Association Great Debate hosted at NewVIc

On Wednesday 24th November 3 NewVIc students, Mariya Anwar, Elisa Klene-Sanchez and Jack Anglim represented our college in the Historical Association Great Debate which was hosted at our college. Students delivered 5 minute speeches on the most important changes in their local area during the 70-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II and our students spoke about changes in education and gentrification.

Students take part in Vlogstar Challenge in partnership with YouTube

NewVIc Performing Arts students have been working on a social media project with facilitator and former Rising Star Vlogstar Challenge winner Justyn Hollett, exploring how to shoot, edit and produce their own vlogs. This amazing training and competition is run by the Jack Petchey Foundation and Media Trust. The Vlogstar Challenge is also working in partnership with YouTube and the Evening Standard.

Students Selected for Award Winning Future Leaders Programme

Seven talented NewVIc students have been awarded a place on the prestigious Future Leaders Programme. This year the programme received 800 applications for the 225 available places from Year 12 students in Redbridge, Waltham Forest, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Barking and Dagenham and Havering. This means only 28% of those who applied were awarded a place.

NewVIc announces partnership with Day of Wrk to inspire disadvantaged students into professional careers

Day of Wrk is an initiative: www.dayofwrk.com which seeks to bring clarity to job roles and industries and improve representation of ethnic minority people in professional ‘white-collar’ careers. The website, created by ex NewVIc student Zakir Hasan, features contributors from a variety of industries and diverse backgrounds who share their authentic day-in-the-life stories.
