NewVIc celebrates Diversity and Inclusion with Alim Kamara and Rushanara Ali MP
NewVIc GCSE Citizenship students host a special student-led diversity and inclusion event at Newham Sixth Form College as part of the colleges’ Diversity and Inclusion Campaign.
On Wednesday 4 May, NewVIc GCSE Citizenship students hosted a special student-led diversity and inclusion event from 1pm to 4pm at Newham Sixth Form College as part of the colleges’ Diversity and Inclusion Campaign.
The campaign celebrates the contributions of people from an ethnic minority background in Newham. The event included fundraising, information sharing, live cultural music, dance and open mic, fashion show by Foundation Learning and SEND students, workshops as well as a special performance from storyteller and rapper, Alim Kamara and NewVIc’s very own spoken word artist, Stefan. BBC Journalist, Aaron A Journo also joined this event to talk to students about his work. The college also had Rushanara Ali MP joining NewVIc’s campaign.
This campaign event is a chance for students in Newham to share their experiences and knowledge celebrating multiculturalism and inclusion today.
Mandeep Gill, Principal and Chief Executive Officer, added:
“This is a fantastic student-led campaign with the support from college staff for students to get involved in. We are committed to providing an environment free from discrimination, bullying, harassment or victimisation, where all members of our community is treated with respect and dignity. We are committed to working in an inclusive way with all the communities in which we are geographically located and to developing a workforce and student community that reflects East London’s and the UK’s rich diversity and vibrancy. This is a very worthwhile campaign for students and staff alike and it was great to have the involvement of Rushanara Ali MP and rapper Alim Kamara with this campaign.”
