NewVIc students celebrate outstanding results and receive scholarships from The London Institute of Banking and Finance
This year over 70 NewVIc students took the qualification in Financial Studies with nearly a quarter of those entered achieving some of the best results in the country.
Sixteen students from Newham Sixth Form College have achieved outstanding results in The London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF) Level 3 qualifications (Certificate and Diploma in Financial Studies), and have been awarded a scholarship of up to £750 each towards one of LIBF’s degree programmes.
In addition to their scholarships, the students also received a bespoke visit to LIBF’s City of London campus where they experienced an insight into studying banking and finance at their university on their DipFS scholarship. The prestigious scholarship also allows for the students to undertake a professional qualification as part of their degree programme, meaning they can graduate with two qualifications.
This year over 70 NewVIc students took the qualification in Financial Studies with nearly a quarter of those entered achieving some of the best results in the country.
Alongside outstanding results in Financial Services, the college achieved an overall A Level pass rate and equivalent vocational pass rate of 97%, with more students achieving A* - B grades at A Level than in previous years.
The Level 3 Diploma in Financial Studies is equivalent in UCAS points to one A Level and is taken by students as part of an A Level programme. On the course students gain a comprehensive introduction to personal finance and develop skills researching and assessing financial services and products. The course provides a foundation for those interested in pursuing a career in business and finance related disciplines, as well as direct entry into employment in the financial services sector.
The London Institute of Banking and Finance and Newham Sixth Form College are working together to enable even more students from Newham to progress into banking and finance. The institute was founded in 1879 and established formal qualifications recognised by the industry, enabling workers to develop their careers. The institute quickly became central to the banking community in England and Wales, and its influence spread around the world. They have evolved with the financial services and banking industries and today are known as The London Institute of Banking and Finance.
Financial Education and Community Outreach Managing Director for LIBF, Catherine Winter, said:
“We are proud to be working with Newham Sixth Form College and their students. We are keen to continue to build on the great relationship we already have and are overjoyed by the outstanding achievements from NewVIc students this academic year. Magdalena Johnson, Vice Principal at NewVIc added:
“Fantastic news and congratulations to all NewVIc students who have achieved outstanding results with The London Institute of Banking and Finance. Despite difficult times with the national pandemic, each one of our students should be very proud of the outcome. Year on year, many NewVIc students progress onto Higher Education to study in the fast-paced and competitive industry of banking and finance. We are absolutely delighted to be working with the institute to help more and more young people to follow their aspirations into banking and finance.”
