“I am very proud of NewVIc. Having met with many students and their parents this morning, it was amazing to see their reactions (and tears) of joy as they realised their results. Being a non-selective and fully inclusive college, we support students from all walks of life, who come to NewVIc with a variety of grades at GCSE. As a college, we are very clear that the grades a student arrives with, is far less important than where they want to go. This morning has proved that with the right support and opportunity, students can truly achieve anything they want. It is an absolute privilege to see students progressing to Oxford, Manchester, Queen Mary’s, King’s - to name a few, along with those who are taking up apprenticeships or employment. All of this has been made possible with an amazing group of staff and governors who I would like to thank for all their dedication, hard work and determination to ensure that every NewVIc student has a bright future.”
Chair of Governors Martin Roser said:
“This has been a really challenging year for both staff and students. I am delighted that their hard work has led to an outstanding set of results. I wish our students every success in the next stage of their career and I am sure that they will look back at their time with NewVIc with fond memories.
As an inclusive sixth form College, our staff have done an amazing job to ensure that our students can meet and often exceed their expectations. We must never forget that NewVIc draws its students from some of the most deprived parts of London and what they achieve is truly amazing.”
In addition to student successes, this year the college gained two further Pearson National Teaching Awards becoming the first institution to win two awards in a single year. The college was awarded Silver Awards for FE Team of the Year: Performing Arts, and FE Lecturer of the Year. The college was also a runner up in an SFCA curriculum innovation award for its work in supporting the 'Decolonising the Curriculum' movement with the creation of NewVIc African Studies Centre.
