Recently, nine A Level Chemistry students, Jiang, Amir, Zhanpeng, Aizah, Oleks, Sadia, Ashaan, Rafin and Ayoyinka won 3 silver awards and 6 copper awards after competing in the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge which aims to stretch and challenge students interested in chemistry.

The competition, run by the University of Cambridge, is set by an experienced team of teachers and university chemists, it is designed to take Year 12 students beyond the syllabus and encourage them to think about science in the way they would at university.

Sadia, A Level student, said;

“The challenge was tough and a really unusual experience! We had to work hard from day one, learning new topics and drawing on topics we had previously been taught. We were really stretched to think in depth.”

Oleks, A Level student, added;

“We had to do a lot of deep thinking and the competition helped us to develop new critical thinking skills and new approaches to solving problems.Our chemistry teachers are amazing and really encouraged us to take part in the competition.”

Adnan Masood, Teacher of Chemistry at NewVIc commented;

"We are lucky to have students who are passionate about studying chemistry and really keen to learn and extend their learning. They also have high career aspirations including aerospace engineering, biochemistry, engineering and medicine amongst some of their career ambitions. They should be really proud of winning their awards."

Sijul Miah, NewVIc Vice Principal, Curriculum and Quality, said;
