Move over Jamie Oliver! Students celebrate first half term with a culinary adventure
Preparation for Adulthood students wrapped up the first term of the academic year with a culinary adventure. This term, students have been able to take their lessons outside in the garden, enabling them to engage in hands-on activities, and enjoy the fresh air.
Students successfully hosted their very first brunch afternoon! This special event was a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their culinary skills, and they did not disappoint.
Staff members were invited to enjoy a delightful brunch where our talented students prepared and cooked delicious omelettes right before their eyes. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jamie Purser, Sijul Miah, Lorna Langridge, Shabnam Bibi, Naomi Mullings, Paulo Rodrigues and Shah Rahman for attending the brunch. The smiles and satisfaction around the table were a testament to the delicious meal shared and the joy of learning through practical experiences.

“I’m very impressed with myself and that Lorna enjoyed the omelette I cooked for her. It took a lot of preparation and seemed difficult at first. I found it really fun and followed the instructions set out by my teacher for the cooking session. Lorna rated my omelette a 10 out of 10 and I’m very happy with that!”
Annabelle Herring, Executive Director of Foundation Learning said:
“These outdoor sessions have not only enhanced their learning experiences but have also allowed them to connect with nature, engage in Whether it was exploring the science of plants or participating in team-building exercises, the garden has proven to be an inspiring classroom!
As we look forward to the next half term, we are eager to continue building on these experiences. Our students are developing essential life skills, fostering independence, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.”
Lorna Langridge, Head of Quality and Curriculum Development commented:
“The brunch invite today by students is just amazing. This was a fantastic opportunity to learn about ways of being independent and expand on life skills. Students went to the shops, budgeted, gathered a list of ingredients, used money, followed hygiene in the kitchen and prepped and cooked in front of us after taking my preferred way I would like my omelette. It was delicious and thank you to student Younus for making mine for me.”
