Foundation learning students took part in a class with a difference. Friends of the Earth visited NewVIc to run workshops in environmental campaigning and social action. Over 40 students benefited from the sessions delivered by Jamien Steward, a Friends of the Earth Youth Campaign Coach.

Workshops kicked off with a video featuring the national warm homes campaign Friends of the Earth ran last year. Students learnt about how communities up and down the UK came together to create quilts which were presented to local MPs as part of a day of action calling for lower energy bills and warm homes for all.

Students then worked in groups to design and produce their own quilts whilst learning about how communities can work together to drive social change.

Jamie Steward, Youth Campaign Coach said;

“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to work with Foundation Learning students at NewVIc. It’s important that young people learn about the importance of taking action to address social issues and that community action can be a powerful way to achieve social change.”
