Newham Sixth Form College has been accredited the matrix quality standard for information advice and guidance services it provides to prospective and current students. Since the last accreditation review Student Services has continued to refine its student outcome based practices.

The Matrix Standard is the international quality standard for organisations that deliver information, advice and/or guidance (IAG), either as their sole purpose or as part of their service offering.

The college’s Student Services last met the Matrix Standard in 2017 and views the standard as an integral part of its internal quality processes, which also include the maintenance of an Ofsted ‘Good’ rating, confirmed at a full inspection in December 2018 and including an ‘Outstanding’ rating for Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare. Over the last three years, these IAG delivery teams have continued to ensure that provision is reviewed and evaluated to inform and meet the changing learning and skills landscape, in line with its vision to be ‘The first choice college for enhancing the lives of students in partnership with parents, employers, and community’.

NewVIc was the first sixth form college in the country to be awarded the full assessment covering all areas from welfare and guidance and tutoring to inclusive learning in the year 2010.

To gain the accreditation the College underwent a rigorous assessment which involved interviews with staff, students and stakeholders remotely via Google Meetings in April 2020.

The assessor praised the high level of support for students in both accessing and understanding information. The assessment revealed the students feel well supported and encouraged in reviewing their options. There is evidence of improved punctuality, participation, confidence, communication and motivation from students.

Gaining and continuing with the maxtrix accreditation for all the College’s support services is a testament to the commitment and dedication from staff in the services reviewed.

Mandeep Gill, Principal and Chief Executive, commented on the college’s success:

I am delighted with the continued recognition and accreditation from the Matrix Standard. Our students are always at the centre of everything we do, whatever their abilities or previous experience of education. We have an outstanding group of staff who are passionate about the College and the opportunities we are able to offer to our students. We provide outstanding advice and support opportunities for its students and I want to ensure that we will continue to do the very best that we can for our students.

Roger Chapman, Head of the Matrix Service for The Growth Company said:
