NewVIc Teachers win London Teacher of the Year Awards

NewVIc teachers Shabnam Bibi and Carina Ancell from Newham Sixth Form College have both won a London Teacher of the Year Award. Shabnam also ended up winning in her vocational category. They were both selected from a total of 40 other staff who were celebrated in London last week.

Inspirational NewVIc teachers awarded by Inspire Schools KM Charity. 

NewVIc teachers Shabnam Bibi and Carina Ancell from Newham Sixth Form College have both won a London Teacher of the Year Award. Shabnam also ended up winning in her vocational category. They were both selected from a total of 40 other staff who were celebrated in London last week. 

Both Shabnam and Carina were nominated for their outstanding work supporting, encouraging and mentoring students from foundation level right up to Honours students who are gifted and talented students on the college’s Honours Programme. The London Teacher of the Year Awards mark the vital contribution that school staff make to the community. The awards recognise the expertise and dedication that is the hallmark of an outstanding teacher. 

Due to COVID-19, the London Teacher of the Year celebrations were postponed from the summer and was broadcasted to a live audience of NewVIc staff, students, parents and general public online on Friday 9 October. This award is a testament to both of these teachers for their outstanding work over the previous years. Our staff are committed to delivering an outstanding teaching and learning experience to all learners. Both these teachers have worked incredibly hard to support, encourage and motivate students to achieve their full potential. Shabnam Bibi, Teacher of Foundation Learning added:

I am so pleased to receive this award and ever so grateful to be working in a prestigious institution that supports and encourages me. Thank you to everyone involved in the awarding, I am overwhelmed and overjoyed to be celebrating this award. 

Carina Ancell, Teacher of History and Honours Programme Manager added:

I am absolutely over the moon with the recognition from the London Teacher of The Year award; it has come as a really nice surprise. Thank you to everyone that was involved in nominations and putting me forward, it means a lot, thank you.
