NewVIc student Sadia receives a bronze award from the British Biology Olympiad

NewVIc A Level student Sadia recently took part in the British Biology Olympiad, an advanced problem solving competition for A level students which was a challenging but very beneficial experience for her. The British Biology Olympiad challenges and stimulates students with an interest in biology to expand and extend their talents. It enables students to demonstrate their talent and to be suitably rewarded with publicly recognised certificates.

Sadia focused on ecology, a topic she wasn't too familiar with, she used her A Level knowledge on biology, competing with her problem solving skills and understanding and linking it to real life questions as part of her test.

Before the summer term ended, Sadia was joined by Vice Principal, Curriculum and Quality, Sijul Miah, Head of Curriculum, Fiona Jonhstone and Curriculum Manager, Jo Wehrfritz to be presented with her bronze medal awarded by the British Biology Olympiad.

A Level student, Sadia, said:

“I’m so proud to have received a bronze award. It was well worth the time and effort to participate in this. I had the opportunity to tackle a topic that wasn’t covered in school, explored it with my peers and teachers at college and entered the national competition. I’m an aspiring scientist and want to find a cure for cancer in the future. Being the eldest child, I want to be a role model for my younger siblings to see all the things I am doing and do well themselves in their educational career.”

Sijul Miah, Vice Principal, Curriculum and Quality at NewVIc added:

“Congratulations to Sadia for winning the bronze award in The British Biology Olympiad problem solving competition. The teaching staff and fellow students are proud of Sadia's achievement. Sadia was amazed to receive the award, she is a conscientious learner who is determined to succeed.”

Fiona Johnstone, Head of Curriculum also added:

“The British Biology Olympiad is a challenging problem solving competition. We are thrilled that Sadia has been awarded a bronze award as a national top scoring student. Her class burst into screams and applause when presented with her award. Well done Sadia!”
