Meet NewVIc student and Student Union President and Student Governor Habib. Habib is currently in his second year on his Level 3 Travel and Tourism course. We caught up with Habib to find out a little more.

Why did you choose to go for your Student Union role?

I have been a part of the Student Union in the last academic year which made me realise the importance of the student voice. I want to make sure students’ concerns are heard and communicated to the senior leadership team. I also want to use my time to show my fellow students that there are many opportunities for them to participate in. I would like to motivate students to become better individuals and create greater relationships between students and teachers.

What do you enjoy about being a student at NewVIc?

NewVIc is a great place to be because you get support from teachers and other members of staff. The college atmosphere is very friendly and there are many opportunities for students. I managed to develop myself as a student leader through the student development programme that was available to me.

What would you like to improve with your role?

I would like to promote equal opportunities for all students. I would like to also acknowledge all students’ potential and address any issues or concerns they may have. I am aiming to lead on lots of student events and activities to increase overall student engagement at the college after COVID-19 calms down.

What is your favourite food?

Lamb biryani!

What would be your superpower and why?

Super speed - why? So that I am able to do my tasks in much less time.
