Going to Warwick University to study Computer Science

Tell us about yourself?

I studied an MIT course online and attended lectures and watched videos, using free resources to learn about topics that will be vital to my course.

What do you hope to do next?

I am planning to study for a degree in Computer Science at Warwick University. Before I do that, I am planning to take a gap year and complete a software engineering course, which will open up opportunities at partnership companies like Amazon. I've always been fascinated with anything to do with technology, innovation, and creativity. I love problem-solving and want to be at the forefront of the rapidly changing technology environment and bring new changes for the future. The choices I thought about were engineering or computer science, and after studying Maths and Further Maths, I realised Computer Science was right for me.

How will your qualification/course help you in the future?

Maths and Further Maths are all to do with problem-solving and the way you solve the problem. The sense of accomplishment you feel after working through the problems is what makes me feel a sense of success. In Computer Science it is all about problem-solving in the real world, so these subjects go hand-in-hand and really important for my degree.

What will you miss about NewVIc and your college experience in general?

I'll miss my maths and physics teachers as we all solving problems together and it was like we were friends solving these problems and helping each other. The college environment was incredible, the resources, computer, books, and games club that I could go to after finishing all my work. All this really helps students' concentrate and get to the end goal of what they want to do. I am very thankful to NewVIc as I came from Ghana and needed the opportunity to study these A Levels and I wasn't able to get into other schools or colleges. NewVIc gave me the chance to do the course and become what I want to become, for that I'll always be grateful.
