Change Will Come
A poem by Deeqa Abudulgadir Salaad
Change, a constant in my life
my parents abandoning me cut me like a knife
They took me to a foster home,
“please come and get me,” I said to them, crying on the phone.
I left at eighteen
pushing back the memories of my stay at Aberdeen
I had to change my life
Not letting the strife
Of verbal abuse and beatings
And be excited to see
What the future brings
It is now twenty years
to the day
since my parents walked away.
Since then I’ve found a new one
called Don
Who counselled me out of my troubles and fears.
And has given my stresses a world of cheers.
In whatever situation you are currently in,
Remember, it’s only temporary keep up your chin!
And though your world may be in a spin
Remember to wear a grin!
