Fatima Ali

Mental Health Advisor and Youth Safety Worker

On work-life:

“With academic qualifications in Psychology (BSc) and Health Psychology (MSc) from Coventry University, I have sought out a career in supporting people to make healthy choices around their mental health and wellbeing. I have previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Mental Health Trainer and Mental Health Practitioner.”

“Knowing that they go through some extremely difficult challenges and still show up, helps me to show up for them everyday.”

On most inspiring person you have met:

“I feel inspired by the young people I work with. Everyday I am entrusted by students, and I truly feel humbled that they seek my advice and support around their mental health and wellbeing. Knowing that they go through some extremely difficult challenges and still show up, helps me to show up for them everyday.”

On student progression from her services:

“In my sessions, I create a safe space for students to express themselves and allow them to feel heard. We work together to explore the challenges they are facing and find ways to overcome these, using evidence based psychological strategies. Understanding one’s own mental health can be very liberating. Following an intervention, we often see:

Self-awareness

Increased resilience

Better self-esteem

Better communication

Better attendance

Healthier relationships

Ability to make better decisions for oneself

Students can find me in B272 or B208b. Just drop in and ask for Fatima or email fatima.ali@newvic.ac.uk.”
