Razaan

Meet NewVIc student and Student Welfare Officer, Razaan. She is a member of the Student Union and is currently in her second year studying A Levels in Psychology, English Literature and Law. Razaan is also an active Student Ambassador. We caught up with Razaan to find out a little more.

Why did you choose to go for your Student Union role?

I chose to take this role because I come from a South African background with family members who have experienced injustice in the apartheid period. Focusing on mental health and inequality has always been big for me. Through studying psychology and being a part of the student union and other equality and diversity groups at NewVIc, I strive to be the voice of students as I understand and identify with them. We’re all for one and one for all!

What do you enjoy about being a student at NewVIc?

I enjoy the opportunities given to us all as students. There are so many different activities such as Student Union, driving theory courses and other extracurricular activities.

What would you like to improve with your role?

I would like to introduce students to more academic resources that can help with home learning and catching up with missed work. I want to do a mental health focus for staff as well as students as I’ve learnt that one third of work absences are due to mental health! I want to give out tips for managing stress and workloads so it’s a much easier transition for students as they head to university.

What is your favourite food?

Do we need to eat as I love chocolate! I equally enjoy eating sushi and Indian food - there are so many Indian dishes to name!

What would be your superpower and why?

My superpower would be to have the ability to time travel to experience the amazing moments in life twice!
