Ryan

Ryan is a first-year student studying Level 3 in Media. Ryan is involved in many opportunities available for students at NewVIc like the Student Ambassador volunteering scheme. He arrived from Germany and joined the college on our Progress to Advanced Programme. We caught up with Ryan to find out a little more about his journey so far.

What made you choose NewVIc?

At that time I had been at home for an entire year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. I just arrived from another country so was very hard to settle in in uncertain times. With that going on, I had to look for a sixth form to enrol on, it was such a stressful time while, not knowing the process on how to apply and get offered a place. I applied for NewVIc who supported me throughout the process, I am so glad I am here.

How have you found college so far?

Since I started learning at NewVIc, it has been really good. I owe a lot to the teachers. They have helped me so much, throughout my good and bad times. My experience has been 5 stars (if I was to rate it). I performed really good in Maths which was something I never expected, my peers and teachers have made me realise my potential in the process of learning at NewVIc.

Is there anything you wish you had known that you do now?

Due to being a newcomer to the country and to a new education system from Germany, there were many things that I did not know and understand that could’ve affected my future studies. These included things like the grades required for A Levels and general knowledge after completing GCSEs. I am now fully aware of the path I am on and have a grasp of what is going on. I look forward to my future.

Who is the most inspiring person you have ever met?

Throughout my time at NewVIc, I have definitely interacted with many people, most who are teachers. One in particular teacher that has really helped me is Annabelle, she made sure I studied and did well in order to get in the media sector, correcting me and expanding my ideas on media that I never knew about.

The Sports Academy was another area that has inspired me. I have a big passion for sports. I have been able to be introduced and coached in a variety of sports which have broadened my experience.

What is your advice for students considering NewVIc?

With all that I have done so far at NewVIc, it has all been worth it. There are so many opportunities, it’s up to you to take them up. You can aim high here, I took that opportunity and I am very happy I did. You can too.

So what’s next?

I am looking forward to study Level 3 Media and making the best of what I can here. I will definitely get into lots of extra curricular activities which will of course increase my sports knowledge. I am determined of going to university after college. My goal is to realise my full potential and stand at the top.
