Footballers hammer Tower Hamlets

NewVIc   6 v 0   New City Tower Hamlets

NewVIc stormed through to the second round of the AoC knockout cup with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Tower Hamlets College, where a second hattrick of the season for in-form striker Cheema and goals from Khalil & Bangura secured the passage to the next stage of the competition.

NewVIc raced into an early lead when keeper Laurin hit a goal kick that seemed to hang in the air for an eternity. The ball finally bounced on the edge of the opposition penalty area which forced an error from the Hamlets keeper who had a rush of blood to the head and came charging out! NewVIc forward Cheema was the quickest to react from the bounce and instinctively headed the ball over the lost keeper into the net.

NewVIc attacking winger Sagoe went on another of his mazy runs and he was finally brought down on the edge of the Hamlets penalty area.  Khalil stepped up to take the free-kick and once again the hamlet’s keeper made a costly mistake and spilt the free-kick straight into the path of incoming Cheema who bundled the ball in, to ease the nerves of the NewVlc squad Tower Hamlets 0 NewVlc 2

The NewVIc two-goal lead didn’t stop them from pressing forward and the pressure finally paid off again with hard-working Khalil adding his first of the game when his low drive unfortunately slipped through the helpless Hamlets’ goalkeeper fingers!

10 minutes after the restart Cheema scored NewVlc’s fourth of the afternoon and amazingly secured his 2nd hattrick of the season when Sagoe squared a short pass across the box and Cheema hit a point shot drive straight into the right-hand side leaving the keeper with no chance.

Khalil wasn’t quite finished he continued to run at the Hamlets defenders again and again. His last attack saw him drop his shoulder skilfully, beat two oncoming midfielders and hit a powerful shot past the keeper

NewVlc commendably finished their business in triumphant fashion when man of the match college captain Ousman Bangura scored his first of the season deep into injury time.
