hip-hop dance course

A dance class where you will learn a variety of Hip-Hop Styles, fun choreography and the basics of Hip-Hop. This is a great way to meet new people and be able to express yourself through movement.

This class is open to beginners and above- so come along if you want to try something new or practice your moves!

 

newviews: playwriting course

NewViews is the National Theatre’s annual playwriting programme for young people aged 15-19. In this course, you will discuss storytelling, explore a range of topics and learn more about playwriting. You will then write your own 30 minute play! 

Across the country, hundreds of students will write a play and then one play will be chosen to be staged at the National theatre with a professional cast!

 

podcasting

Are you interested in presenting? Do you want to discuss a wide range of topics? Then come along to the Podcast Society to learn how to record, edit, host and promote your very own podcast!

 

driving theory

Are you interested in completing your driving theory test? In this course you will be learning everything you need to know to get you ready for your Theory Test. In order to register on this course you will need to be 17 years old or above. If you complete the full course then you will get your Theory Test paid for.

 

code club

At the Code Club you will learn how to write your own code and learn how to use coding software. This will be a 10 week course that you will need to attend every week.

 

movie club

This is the club for film lovers and all things film! Join the Movie Club for a place to sit back, relax and enjoy a wide range of films. Looking to test your knowledge of films? In addition to film screenings there will be the opportunity to review the films and discuss your favourite films with others!

 

Debating Society

NewVIc Debating Society is a friendly group that welcomes students at all levels. You will take part in student led debates to help you become a more confident public speaker and create persuasive arguments.

Elevate Dance

Elevate, is a new Session that is all about Good Vibes and Grooves, while learning all styles of dance and technique, understanding timing and how the body moves! Friends of the Earth - My world, my home

The My World My Home project is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund as part of the Our Bright Future programme.

My World My Home is a prestigious leadership development programme for young people, in association with Friends of the Earth and SOS-UK.

From getting drastic on plastic to fighting climate change, we want to change the world for good. It's time to make a difference.

Games Club

Whether you’re interested in board games, card games or just love a game of chess- this club is for you! We also have an PS4 and a Nintendo Switch available for you to use if that’s more your thing!

 

LGBT+ Pride Group

NewVic Pride group is a student-led LGBT+ group that provides a friendly and safe space for students to socialise, support each other, take part in fun and creative activities and discuss LGBT+ issues!

 

Music Production

Do you have a passion for creating music? Do you play an instrument or are you keen to learn? This group is open to any students who want to create and record their own compositions, learn to make music, record and DJ with confidence and if you’re a vocalist learn to sing or rap making tracks and beats.

 

NewVIc Dance Company

NDC is NewVIc's Flagship Dance Company, performing across the UK on many platforms. You need to Audition to get into the company. You will train in all styles and techniques while learning intense choreography. Be ready to work hard and have an amazing time! NewVIc Theatre Company

Join NewVIc Theatre Company and develop your drama/acting skills. You do not need to have any experience just an interest and a passion. You will be developing your vocal technique, movement skills, looking at scripts, texts and working towards a performance. You will develop your confidence, team work and performance skills.

Solid Harmony Vocal Collective

Solid Harmony Vocal Collective brings people together in a shared singing activity. Whatever you think of your singing talent Solid Harmony will show you that each voice is valuable and that coming together to sing collaboratively brings so many benefits helping us to feel creative, energised and relaxed.

Our choral leaders will inspire, challenge and empower you and help you to build musicianship and community. You will take part in exciting energising warm ups and a very wide range of musical styles - pop, soul, gospel, jazz, hip hop contemporary. Make new friends, make new sounds and release your voice in a group.

Student Ambassador

Becoming a Student Ambassador is a great way to learn new skills, meet new people and work with others. It shows universities and employers that you are keen to give up your own time to volunteer.

Student Ambassador is a fantastic opportunity that allows your experiences to become a source of knowledge for potential students; develops skills such as leadership, communication, teamwork, presentation and creative; and enriches your own student journey.  

As an Ambassador you have the opportunity to share your unique journey with potential future students and help support large events, including Summer Induction and Open Days. You will work in a diverse range of jobs, such as event management, speaking opportunities and marketing, just to name a few.

You be working with thew NewVIc Marketing team and will receive Amazon vouchers for your support at the end of the year. You can also gain a reference for your CV for future employment.

As a Student Ambassador you have a say in when you work and it is flexible enough to suit your study commitments. Any upcoming jobs are uploaded to our WhatApp group and you then select the jobs you are available for, ensuring you can fit work into your schedule.

Wellbeing Ambassadors

States of Mind will be working with students at NewVIc this term to design new initiatives to support young people’s mental health. Wellbeing Ambassadors will take part in 5 training sessions to learn about current perspectives on mental health and develop their knowledge and skills.

You will be part of a team of students across Newham who are developing new ways to support young people’s mental health in education. Sign up now to register your interest and to receive more information.

Bea Herbert is the founder and Director of States of Mind. Bea founded States of Mind in 2017, driven by a desire to create change in how our society speaks about and supports experiences of emotional distress. She specialises in co-creating projects that enable young people to design innovations for wellbeing. Drawing on her training in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy, Bea is the Project Manager and Lead Facilitator at States of Mind.

What are we responsible for?

Whether you play for fun, fitness or at expert level, we offer an abundance of activities to get involved in.
All students are invited to take part in the following sports activities at lunch and after college.

newvic fitties

Day: Monday
Time: 1.00 - 1.50 pm
Location: Gym

A women's only group Personal Training session, Your very own personal trainer takes you through a weight training programme, working on different parts of the body each session. This is a great way to pick up training tips for your own training as well as having an expert on hand to answer all your fitness related questions! Please ensure you have completed your Gym induction before attending this session ( gym inductions can be booked via the Sports Academy reception F block)

 

Dodgeball

Day: Tuesday
Time: 12.00 - 12.50 pm & 1.00 - 2.00 pm
Location:
Sport Hall

Join us for the 5 D’s of Dodgeball! Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge! a fun fast paced session, all you need to do is turn up and make sure you are wearing the correct footwear (trainers) everyone is put in teams so it's a great way to meet new people and let off some steam!

 

pilates

Day: Tuesday
Time: 1.00 - 1.50 pm
Location: D Block theatre

Pilates builds body strength, stamina, and flexibility for sculpting and streamlining the body! Regularly practicing Pilates can boost circulation, increase coordination, improve posture and body image! Many of the exercises focus on breathing and relaxation. If you are looking for a mindful activity you have just found it! 

All equipment is provided, just come along in comfy clothes and wear socks! (no trainers required).

 

Non Contact Boxing

Day: Thursday
Time: 4.45 - 6.00 pm
Location: CEED (Student Hub)

Male & female non-contact boxing sessions aim to improve student’s fitness, discipline, speed & coordination. We also provide a platform for students to further enhance their boxing technique through links with local amateur clubs.

 

Parkour

Day: Thursdays
Time: 1.00 - 2.00 pm
Location: Sports Hall

Parkour involves moving from one place to another by jumping, climbing, rolling, vaulting and swinging over obstacles without equipment. It is non-competitive and can build strength, balance, spatial awareness, control, agility and coordination and will build your confidence and self-reliance.

All levels are welcome, just come ready to take part!

 

Roller Disco Club

Day: Thursdays
Time: 4.45 - 6.00 pm
Location: Main Hall or Link

Roller Skate Club is a place where you can hang out with your friends, meet new people and skate while listening to music of your choice! All levels are welcome, just come along ready to take part!

 

Self Defence

Day: Start Date TBC
Time: TBC
Location: CEED (Student Hub)

Taking part in Self Defence sessions in a friendly, fun environment will help you feel safer and more confident. At our Self Defence club we learn new techniques every week, from blocking attacks to take downs. Casual clothes are suitable, so just turn up and have fun!

 

Skateboarding club

Day: Wenesdays
Time: 1.30 - 2.00 pm
Location: Link or MUGA (depending on weather)

Skate Club join us every Friday, we meet outside between the MUGA and Management Hub. We have skateboards and safety gear for you to borrow - All levels are welcome. We have  professional coaches joining us for some sessions to help improve your riding ability, confidence, improve your riding control, balance and trick techniques. Just come along ready to take part!

 

Table Tennis

Day: Monday lunchtime
Time: 12:00 - 1:00 pm & 1.00 - 2.00 pm
Location: Sports Hall

Interested in a fast-paced activity that sharpens your reflexes, gets your heart pumping and improves stamina? Then pick up a bat and join us at our weekly enrichment table tennis session which can be played casually against your friends, classmates, or even staff members.

 

Here Come the Girls Ambassadors

Day: Thursday
Time: 12 - 12.50 pm
Room: TBC

We want to educate, promote and empower women and girls to become more active and hope to remove barriers that prevent women's participation in sport.  We meet around twice a month so we can plan for our events 

We work very closely with the ‘This Girl Can’ movement.

Make sure you sign up if you want to make a difference to female sport and be a part of this amazing group of young female leaders.

 

Trampolining Club

Day: Thursday
Time: 12.00 - 1.00 pm & 1.00 - 1.50 pm
Location: F Block Sports Hall

Trampolining is great fun AND can also help with your balance, coordination and motor skills! It's a full body workout - come along if you have trampoline experience or if you are a beginner, our coach Anthony wants to help you improve and give you that confidence to try a new move! 

You must wear socks on the trampoline.

 

Women’s Basketball squad

Day: Monday
Time: 1.00 - 1.50 pm
Location: Sports Hall

All skill levels are welcome to our Women's Basketball Squad training. Make new friends, develop your skills and improve your health and well-being. Please come in ready to play!

 

Women’s Cricket Academy

Day: Mondays
Time: 5.00 - 6.00 pm
Location: Newham College

The NewVIc Women's Cricket Academy is in its 2nd year supported by Essex Cricket.

We offer opportunities to train, play indoor and outdoor matches as well as improve your fitness and well-being. If you are interested in playing cricket then you will want to sign up to our Women's Cricket Academy. We will make our way to Newham College via bus together each week.

Time: 4.45 - 6.00 pm
Location: Sports Hall

All skill levels are welcome to our Women's Football Squad training. Make new friends, develop your skills and improve your health and well-being.
