Former Sports and Exercise Science student Chloe has had an impressive academic career at NewVIc - and she has also had an impressive start to her football season at Leyton Orient FC. She is stepping up with Leyton Orient FC Women’s U18s to join the first team squad this season.

Whilst studying a level 3 course in sport, she was put forward for an opportunity to play with Leyton Orient FC Women’s U18s last year and, due to her outstanding skills, she is now moving up in the ranks.

Chloe was an active member of the NewVIc Sports Academy (which provides an intensive training programme for talented sportspeople), volunteering and taking up the opportunity to study a coaching level 1 course alongside her vocational course that has helped her educational career. In 2023, Chloe also won the Association of Colleges (AoC) Inspirational Student of the Year Award for her outstanding work supporting, encouraging and inspiring her peers across a range of sports.

This summer Chloe progressed on to the University of East London to study BSc Sports Therapy and hopes to pursue a career in physiotherapy whilst also playing for Leyton Orient FC.

Chloe, Level 3 Sports and Exercise student, said:

"I’ve played football since I was little. I never thought I was going to be playing for a proper football club! Studying for a sports qualification and playing sports at NewVIc has opened up so many opportunities for me and fellow student athletes. It was the main reason why I chose to study at NewVIc. The combination of academic sports teachers and the Sports Academy has helped me massively. Without their support, I don’t think I would have got to where I am now.

I’m chuffed with my progression in football. Playing with Leyton Orient FC has taught me so much and I’m enjoying my journey with them; discovering different playing dynamics, playing and working as a team as well as working with different people and personalities.

Moving up to the first team from the U18’s team is a year-long dream for some, but I managed to achieve it. My friends and family are very supportive and I am very proud of what I have achieved and what women can achieve in the field of sport. I look forward to what the future holds and the opportunities that will follow.”

Shane Rancic, Curriculum Manager for Sport & Humanities, commented:

“We are very proud of Chloe's achievements on our level 3 sports course. She scored in the top 15% of the country and this has been quickly followed by the fantastic news of her progression to the Leyton Orient FC first team squad.

Not only are her academic achievements impressive, but her attitude and likeable personality stand out as amazing attributes that will hold her in good stead moving forward. She has worked tirelessly to get to where she is and has been able to balance her studies alongside her footballing commitments tremendously well. I hope this continues during university. We wish her all the best.”
