Adrian

Joseph is a budding basketball player with NewVIc Knights Basketball Team. He is currently in his first year of studying Level 3 Business. He was a former St Bonaventure’s School student. We caught up with Adrian to find out a little more about his journey so far.

What made you choose NewVIc?

I chose NewVIc to study Business at a college that is not too far from home and to also play for the NewVIc Knights Basketball Academy. When I was Year 10 I attended the scrimmages programme offered by the Basketball Academy for young people in and outside of the college to participate in. During these sessions I met coach Will who inspired and offered me the option to join NewVIc and join the growing NewVIc Knights Basketball Academy.

How have you found sixth form so far?

So far I've found the college great! The college not only focuses on studying but also cares about the wellbeing of the students. NewVIc, offers students with events, activities and other clubs you can join. It also has an amazing library that you could use for studies or just a place to relax and read a book. I find this very facility very important for students, the library is spread over three floors where students can come to study, read and take breaks and their minds off studying whilst looking at the skyline of London.

Is there anything you wish you had known that you do now?

Joining NewVIc, I was unsure on how I would settle in. I wasn't sure if I would make any new friends. The basketball team really helped me in making new friendships and creating strong bonds with one another, helping us on and off the basketball court. At NewVIc, there are many students with similar interests that you meet so making new friends isn't so hard.

Who is the most inspiring person you have ever met?

Although I haven't met him, the most inspiring person to me is Kobe Bryant. He is a role model to people around the world and his work ethic was unparalleled to any other athlete. He has inspired me to become the best version of myself everyday and to apply his "Mamba Mentality" to everyday life.

What is your advice for students considering NewVIc?

My advice to students considering NewVIc is to attend the Open Days the college offers and ask questions about the college and what it has to offer. NewVIc provides students with many unique options for studies and also many clubs and societies for you to join that other colleges don’t always have but you will find it here.

So what’s next?

As of right now, I don't really have a clear pathway I would like to go just yet. However, I'm sure NewVIc and the NewVIc Knights Basketball Academy will help me find these options I would look into considering in the future. It is a very supportive environment here at NewVIc.
