Extracurricular activities

As London’s largest sixth form college, NewVIc is able to offer a huge range of extracurricular activities through its Activ8 programme. The programme offers a wide range of clubs and activities open to all students during lunchtimes and after college. The activities on offer include:

Carbolic: the NewVIc magazine produced for students by students in partnership with Lister school, featuring current affairs, creative writing, topical debates, reviews and more.

Volunteering: there is a wide range of opportunities available, from becoming a peer mentor at college to helping local primary school pupils with their reading.

Music Bursary: delivered in partnership with the Newham Academy of Music, this scheme offers students free music tuition in a range of instrumentsr.

Street dance: professional dancers train students in street dance. At the end of the year your son or daughter will perform to friends and family at Stratford Circus.

Sports academy: the Academy offers a wide range of sports, including female only activities.

Students can find out more about what’s on offer at the Freshers’ Fair that takes place at the college each September. All hours gained through extracurricular activities count towards your child’s Sixth Form Bac (SF Bac) award, which is a scheme that records students’ wider achievements and skills through hours undertaken in four key areas: subjects, skills, values and breadth. The SF Bac is open to all students and is recognised by universities and employers. Students who have done particularly well through the scheme and have received a commendation from their tutor will receive an award as part of the college’s Annual Awards evening, which takes place each October.
