Our partnership with Germany is going strong: Part 2: Hildegard-Wegscheider-Schule from Berlin visits NewVIc in London!
Show the parts of London other tourists don’t see!
On 16 March a group of students and their teachers, Birgit and Peter, from the Hildegard-Wegscheider-Schule in Berlin visited NewVIc. Our A-level German students had made a programme to show the parts of London other tourists don’t see.
But first we welcomed our guests in our college. Eddie introduced our college before we gave them a guided tour completing the NewVIc quiz. We discussed various topics, for which our guests had prepared presentations that gave us insights about Berlin and current topics, such as how Germany helps refugees to integrate. Our guests were impressed with our canteen, as German schools don’t have such choice for lunch. In the afternoon we travelled round the world in the East End, discovering Afro-hairstylists, Halal butchers and Tamil jewellery in Green Street. And then it was off to spend the remaining money and energy in Stratford’s shopping centre. A great day out that showed our guests a side of London not everyone sees, and that gave us an insight into life in Berlin!
As our colleague, Birgit Gediga, writes: Wir hatten eine phantastische Zeit bei Euch. Ihr habt Euch viel Zeit für uns genommen, so dass wir wirklich sehr viel Neues erfahren haben. We had a fantastic time with you. You gave us your time and we could experience so many new aspects of London!
What a great result of our partnership: Learning from and with each other across borders!
