We have made some important changes to our application and interview process for new students. Undoubtedly, many of you will have lots of questions, so we have gathered together some frequently asked questions to help answer any concerns you may have.

 
  • Yes, you can contact us for advice about your options.

    We also host monthly online careers advice sessions. These sessions give advice on course options and career progression routes through one-to-one advice with qualified information, advice, and guidance practitioners. Parents are also welcome to attend. For more information, please visit our events page.

  • You can apply to college by completing an online application form.

    • Applications for starting in September 2022 are open from 1 October 2021.

    • Applications for starting in September 2023 will be open from 1 October 2022.

  • Submission for priority applications is 31 March 2022. However, we still accept applications throughout the year.

    Any applications received after the 31 March 2022, will not be guaranteed an interview or a place on your first choice course.

  • That’s fine!

    You can change the courses you have applied for at any point during the application process, even after you have received an offer from us.

    To change your course, please contact our admissions team by completing the form on contact admissions page.

  • No. You will be able to save your application as a draft as many times as you like. This will allow you to complete it at your own pace and check the contents.

  • The form must be completed online. We will ask you to create an account so that you can save your drafts before submitting your application.

  • No. You can only submit one application form. Make sure you check the details and statements in your application before submitting.

  • Yes. You will need to provide details of a teacher at your current school. This is usually your Head of Year or Tutor.

  • Once you have completed your online application, you will receive an on-screen confirmation message. Your application will then be reviewed by a member of our admissions team, following this you will receive an email to confirm it has been processed.

    You will then be invited to attend an interview. Our interviews usually run from January - May. You will receive an invitation for your interview one week in advance of your interview date. You will receive email correspondences from us throughout the application process.

    If you have applied and haven’t heard anything from us within 2 weeks of submitting your application please get in touch to find out about the status of your application. You can contact our admissions team by completing the form on this page. You can also log into the account you created when applying to check the status of your application.

  • Research

    Before you begin completing your application form, carry out as much research on the college as you can. There is lots of information on our website and on our social media channels which will give you an insight into the atmosphere and values we have at NewVIc. Find out more about the courses you are interested in to check if they are the right courses for you.

    Tell us about yourself

    The application form gives you an opportunity to tell us more about yourself. This is an important part of your application as it provides us with key information about you and your interests. You should spend time thinking about what you want to include so you present yourself in the best possible light.

    Make sure you include information about the reasons why you have decided to apply to NewVIc, what subjects you wish to study and why, your interests and what your future ambitions are. Remember this does not always have to be career focussed if you are not sure what you want to do yet.

    Personal statement

    Make sure your personal statement is detailed and outlines your interests, future ambitions and current achievements. You can also mention your work experience, extra-curricular activities and other engagements that have really helped you to develop your skills. Feel free to mention who or what has inspired you to pursue the career or subjects that you are interested in.

    Application form

    Make sure that you complete all aspects of the application form and take time to ensure that all your contact details are correct especially your email address as this will be our primary method for contacting you.

    Information you will need to complete the form:

    • your contact details

    • you parents/carers’ contact details

    • details of any special educational needs or medical conditions so that we can offer you the right support

    • your predicted grades

    • a referee from your current school

    • your personal statement

    • predicted grades

    On our course pages you will find entry requirements for specific courses. Make sure you read these carefully before deciding which subjects you want to apply for. You will be required to enter your predicted grades on our application form.

    It is important to choose subjects where you meet our entry criteria to give you a better chance of success in being made an offer.

  • If you miss your interview you will receive an email from us with an option to reschedule it. You will have one opportunity to reschedule, if we do not hear from you we will not continue to progress your application.

    All students must attend an interview in order to receive an offer from us.

  • Our interviews usually run from January - May.

    You will receive an invitation for your interview one week before your scheduled interview date.

  • Based on your school, your application, personal statement, and predicted grades you will receive an invitation to join one of the following sessions.

    • School interview - 1:1 interview at your school

    • Telephone interview

    • Online group interview

    Schools in Barking & Dagenham, Waltham Forest, Havering, Tower Hamlets, Hackney or Redbridge

  • After your interview you will receive a conditional offer to study with us.

  • Common questions may include:

    • What’s your ambition and career goal?

    • Why do you want to study this course?

    • How much do you know about the course content

    • What is your greatest achievement?

    • What do you do in your spare time?

    • What are your main strengths?

    • How would you describe yourself?

    • Why would you be a good candidate for this College?

  • No, it will not affect your place.  

    Currently the Government is advising that GCSE exams will be going ahead as planned for Summer 2022. If there is a situation where exams are cancelled as the result of the COVID pandemic, your place will be based on your predicted grades or any marks awarded to you as a final grade. You will still receive the best possible advice and support in choosing the right courses at enrolment.
